Since Julian Lage appeared in the documentary, Jules At Eight, as himself, an eight year-old guitar-playing prodigy, he’s been labeled a musician not easily defined. Perhaps it's easiest to pin the jazz label on Julian, having already played on two Grammy-nominated Jazz Albums by Taylor Eigsti and Neena Freelon. He was jazz legend Gary Burton's “latest guitar find” in his Next Generation Quintet and considering Gary Burton's other guitar discoveries - Pat Metheny, John Scofield and Larry Coryell - Julian is in good company to break out of the box.

Two of the biggest names in jazz and one of the hottest newcomers were winners at this year's JJA Awards. It marked the another significant achievement for the resurgent Herbie Hancock, as he won Musician Of The Year, to add to his double Grammy Award triumph for his album 'River' earlier this year - he's set to tour this autumn so watch out for live appearances across Europe.

The Swedish jazz pianist and composer Esbjorn Svensson has died in a scuba diving accident near the Swedish capital Stockholm. He was 44.
