Roberto Tarenzi, born in Milan in 1977, began studying the piano and playing classical music at the age of eight. During his adolescence he discovered jazz and studied with Ray Santisi at the Berklee School seminaries in Umbria Jazz '94, Franco D'Andrea and Enrico Pieranunzi at Siena Jazz '96, Enrico Intra and Roberto Pronzato at the 'Civici Corsi di Jazz' in Milan, where he earned his diploma in 1999.
In 1995 he joined the Big Band directed by pianist/composer Enrico Intra, recorded four CD's with them and accompanied David Liebman, Max Roach, Bobby Watson, Bob Brookmeyer, David Murray, Eddie Daniels, David Raskin, Franco Cerri, Enrico Rava, Franco Ambrosetti, Giovanni Tommaso and many others. In 2000, inspired by the music of pianist Ahmad Jamal, he set up the CUES Trio with Lucio Terzano and Tony Arco. During a jam session in New York, Roberto met James Cammack, Ahmad Jamal's long-time bass player, and went on to play several concerts with him in Italy in 2004 and 2005.
